SMART LIGHTING SYSTEM IN KYIV

AREA Dispatch control systems

CONTRACTING AUTHORITY Kyiv City State Administration

DURATION OF A PROJECT 2018

MAIN OBJECTIVE Development of software and hardware platform for automated central control system and lighting control in Kyiv

A software-and-hardware platform that lets Kyiv monitor and control its street lighting down to a single lamp.

Under the city's "E-capital 2015–2018" target programme, VM Construction produced the project documentation for an automated dispatch-control system for Kyiv's outdoor lighting.

The mission: a software-and-hardware system for automated, flexible, city-wide control of Kyiv's lighting — able to command every single lamp and report the true state of the network in real time.

The control and monitoring system drives modern LED and sodium-vapor lamps side by side, handling different light sources within one system.

It also extends lamp life — running at lower temperatures and holding thermal stability when the system powers up or supply lines are overloaded. Illumination dims and brightens smoothly to the lighting schedule or the level of ambient light, automatically or on manual command.

Under the hood, the platform visualises the state of the whole system and each element, raises emergency alerts, logs events, meters electricity and reports the data. The result is not just efficient use of resources, but a system the city can grow and adapt as its needs change.
